‘The Sound Collector at School’ by Lisa

Librería Internacional Desperate Literature César Viteri Ramirez via Compfight

A stranger called this morning

Dressed all in black and grey,

Put every sound into a bag

And carried them away.

The ringing of the school bells,

The shushing of the teacher,

The shouting in the yard,

The sighing of the children (playtime is finished),

The turning of the pages as the children do their reading,

The sadness of the books as the children put them away,

The yaying of the children when teacher says, ‘It’s hometime!’

The chatting of the children as they talk about their day.

A stranger called this morning.

He didn’t leave his name,

Left us only silence,

Life will never be the same.

Work done with Ms. Kelly.

Inspired by the poem:
