Third Class are learning about Tutankhamun in school.

He was nicknamed the ‘Boy King’.

He became Pharoah of Egypt when he was eight or nine.

We found these websites helpful when we were learning about him.

These pages from Woodlands – Junior School, Kent

are detailed and interesting. There are lots of pictures.

We enjoyed writing our names in hieroglyphics here.

You can see a virtual tour of Tutankhamun’s tomb

on either of these sites:

National Geographic and King Tut

The first one is photographic and the second is an animations.

Which one do you prefer?

Finally there is a  Pyramid Challenge from BBC Schools

for more senior students.

  1. Great to see that you are utilising your online learning and contacts to increase the appeal of the learning to the students. There must be many classrooms, schools and students that have been learning about Egypt – better than looking in old books in the library.

  2. Thank you Mr. Webb,

We used these links in particular for students who are relatively new to Ireland for whom English is not their first language.

Trying to explain words like hieroglyphics, papyrus and even ‘mummy’ from their textbook was challenging, so to use the graphics, activities and resources that are online helped.

We find Google Images is a godsend when working with these students. Last week alone we googled buffalo and heron as they came up in our reading and using Google Images was the most effective way to get the meaning of these words across.

Thanks again for visiting our blog.

    With every good wish

    Merry Beau and students.
