My Mother

She is the sound of the dishwasher closing

She is the colour white,

the same colour as the washing machine!

She would be a comfy armchair

She is ice cream

because she is cool when things go bad.

She is a tiger because she protects me.

She is a golden daffodil, standing tall.

She is birthdays all year round.

A Story by Sofia

One day this family of butterflies met a fairy.

They went to live in a castle. They had a fun time.

Now her stories are even lovelier:

Once upon a time there lived a happy princess.

She lived in a big castle.

Every day the happy princess met a fairy.

They went to live in a zoo with the funny monkeys

Once upon a time, there lived a funny King.

He lived in a big flower bed.

One day the funny king found a tree.

The funny king pushed the tree and found a door.

He went in and he met a worm. They made friends.

Once upon a time there lived a small octopus.

He lived under the sea.

He had a friend, the star fish.

One day the two friends played and played until evening.

Once upon a time there lived a red deer.

She lived on a big hill.

One day the red deer met a funny otter.

He lived in a river on the hill.

The red deer met the otter.

They went to dinner.

I look forward to reading more of your stories Sofia.

Story Writing in Senior Infants: Well Done Kyle

At the beginning of the month

Kyle was writing good stories:

Once upon a time, there lived a teddy

who was talking,

who lived in a toy box.

He was hyper and was always helpful.

One day this teddy met a penguin.

They went to the North Pole.

They had a happy time.

Little Miss Sunshine

He worked hard all month and now is writing great stories.

Once upon a time there lived Miss Sunshine.

She was stacking boxes on her shelves.

Just then a robber stole all the shelves.

So she called the police

but when the police got there

the police couldn’t see anything.

Then Miss Sunshine saw burglars.

Speaking of that…

some other things were missing.

As well Mr Happy’s pet was gone

and Miss Scary’s bed was gone

and they called the police,

the fire brigade

and the rescue helicopter

and they did it.

Once upon a time Mr Mo went to get a job.

He tried a fireman,

bus driver,

teacher,

police

but they were no use,

so he went back home

and that was Nonsense Land

to ask Mr Silly.

‘Be a garden,’ said Mr Silly.

So he had flowers on his shoulder

and blue bells on his head

and banana flowers of his nose.

Who ever heard of banana flowers?

They’re in Nonsense Land

and you can eat them.

Once upon a time there lived some bread

that was being sliced.

Mr Tickle and Miss Magic they didnn’t need a knife.

Miss Magic wayed her magic wand …

and presto it was sliced

but the magic went right down the stairs

and out the door.

It sliced jam on Mr Small but he didn’t mind

he was red all ready.

Then it spread.

Mr Happy had butter on his head.

Mr Strong had egg on his eggs.

If even dropped a toaster on Mr Jelly’s house

and did you know Mr Tickle

and Little Miss Magic didn’t know

but they didn’t not know that for long

because finally the magic

sliced an egg on Mr Tickle’s arms.

Once upon a time there lived Mr Skinny.

One day someone was knocking at his door.

He opened the door…

and there stood two loaves of bread.

They had eyes,

a nose,

and even mouth.

They walked straight in

but Mr Skinny’s wasn’t a house,

he was in a hotel

so if the bread walked in

then it will be a disaster.

Mr Greedy gobbled them up.

Well done Kyle. Keep up the good work.

‘Granny’s Garden’ – Follow Up Activities – Responses to the Story 2

Erin’s Story:

I enjoyed going to the Kingdom of the Mountains. We were trying to rescue six children from a witch. The witch was ugly with a long nose, but otherwise I didn’t think she was very witchy. Luckily when she gave us her cake, it didn’t have any poison in it. There was two goblins by the lake. One was called Redhorn. We went to the Castle of Dreams and met Daniel. We saw Jessica in a secret tower in the forest where pompom trees grow. There was also a Giant on the hill. he asked if he could eat us. We said Yes, but the giant didn’t eat us. He gave us a stone. I really enjoyed the adventure.

This was a great fun adventure. The witch was scary at times. The children were fun to find and not too easy. They were hidden very well. The City of Dragons was a part that you needed to think about. When I went to the Castle of Dreams I met Daniel. In the tower we met Esther. We went to the forest but there was a fire. We met a Giant. He asked us if we wanted to be eaten. We said yes, but he did not eat us. I really enjoyed this adventure.

Caoimhe’s Story:

I’m here in Granny’s Garden. I followed the raven to an old cottage. I get a funny feeling as I walk in and find Anna. She is very annoying so I am trying to find the others as fast as I can. When I get to the Giant’s hill. I was very scared when he tells me he is going to eat me. Then I went to the Dragon Farm, where we had to tame all the baby dragons. We had to feed the dragons to get Clare back. I found all the other kids and then we went back to Granny’s garden for some tea.

Alex’s Story:

I had so much fun saving all six children. But I have to admit, it was really hard, trying not to meet the wicked witch. But when I had to, she gave me the fright of my life, with her big green nose popping out of her face, with that big, black mole on her face. Anyway, when I found the first child Anna, I think, she said that I was family, that I was related to her, and to her brothers and sister.

When I walked into the witch’s cottage, I heard her talking on her  iPhone 5.

‘I don’t want to eat the child’ she moaned and hung up.

She came out and offered me some cake.

I took it and left.

I rescued all the children but they were terribly annoying.

I was glad to give them back to their parents

and to have a cup of tea with Granny.

This is what Michelle had to say:

I loved the trip to the hill where the giant was

As I walked into the cottage, I could sense the witch.

It wasn’t just me being a baby.

There WAS a witch and she offered me a big slice of cake.

I asked her could I have it and suprisingly she gave it to me.

Ciaran’s response:

That was a dreadful day. To be honest the Witch scared the living daylights out of me. I fell neck deep into the swamp and I still can’t wash out the smell. The children that I rescued were so annoying. The wood was as dreadful. I can’t tell you how many times I was ambushed by a blood thirsty bear. We set up camp. In the middle of the night the tent blew away. Man, that’s the last time I am doing that.

A Haunted House by Calum

The Haunted House by Calum

Chapter One

Calum was at home when there was a knock at the door.

It was his very best friends asking him to come out to visit a haunted house.

Calum had heard about the house before and was always wanting to go there.

Now his friends were telling him that they wanted to go there and spend the night.

Chapter Two

The haunted house was a very long walk.

As they got closer, they heard a noise coming from inside the house.

Calum and his friends got excited to see what was inside.

They all agreed that they would all go in to see.

They began to walk closer together to get there.

As they did the door flew open and inside was a big scary goblin!

Chapter Three

Calum and his friends shouted at the goblin.

The goblin may have looked scary but luckily he wasn’t brave.

He ran off down the road and was never seen again.

Chapter Four

Calum said that they could all go back to

‘The Hungry Monk’ to get the best food in Greystones,

but on their way they were stopped by a robber wanting their money and phones.

However Calum decided otherwise.

He tripped up the robber and sat on him.

Chapter Five

Soon enough the police arrived.

Chief Clancy Wigam arrived on the scene

and started shouting and telling everyone what to do.

They locked him in the boot of his own car

and went to have lunch in ‘The Hungry Monk’.

And they all lived happily ever after except for;

Chief Wigam,

the robber,

and the goblin.

I was on my way to school

when me and my Dad heard on the radio

that they were giving away tickets

to the Rugby World Cup Final.

We rang in immediately to answer the question.

Later that day when I got home my Dad

told me that we had won the tickets to the final.

Early Saturday morning me and my Dad

went to catch the plane in the airport.

The final was being held in England.

When we arrived in England we went straight to the hotel.

As soon as we got there we had to go straight to the match

where Ireland was playing against New Zealand.

In the first few minutes New Zealand got 3 points,

but then Ireland got a try and a conversion and were winning 7-3.

It was half time.

New Zealand got a try and a conversion.

In the last minute they scored the conversion.

And they that had another penalty but we still won.

Rebecca’s story about a ‘Secret in the Forest’ involves some ‘monkey business’.

There is a secret in a forest

deep,

deep,

deep,

on the coast of Africa,

behind a sign that says:

monkey

 What?

It was full of all types of monkeys.

So it opened as a Monkey Park.

We need more monkeys.

So if you see an unwanted monkey,

So please,

please,

please

bring any type of monkey,

we won’t mind!
