My Mother

She is the sound of the dishwasher closing

She is the colour white,

the same colour as the washing machine!

She would be a comfy armchair

She is ice cream

because she is cool when things go bad.

She is a tiger because she protects me.

She is a golden daffodil, standing tall.

She is birthdays all year round.

Here are some more poems for Mothers’ Day:

These poems were written using an idea

called ‘The Furniture Game’

from Sandy Brownjohn’s book,

‘Does It Have To Rhyme?’ (Hodder & Stoughton, 1980)

  1. This is such a just post. I love it how it says she is a Tiger because she protects me. That is very true I also like how it says “She is a golden daffodil, standing tall.

  2. Thank you for your kind comment Isabelle. We love our Mums (as we are sure you must too) so we really enjoyed making sure that they had a great Mothers Day.

  3. Maybe our classroom can do ideas for mothers day like your class has. Then we could compare the ideas and see the differences between everyones mums.
P.S. I love seeing all the new post on your blog. I also am a little bit Irish so its really good I’ve made a connection with the country I’m from.

  4. Hello again Isabelle, Thank you for visiting our blog. Mums are really great. We ALL have the best mothers in the world. I am going to visit my Mum today. We are glad that you made a connection with us here in Ireland too.
    With every good wish…
